About Green Door

Established as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation in 2016, Green Door is a volunteer-led organisation. Our main aim is to help reduce loneliness and isolation and the effects this has on so many.

We offer inclusive and adapted activities including Cycling, Canoeing & Kayaking and Archery. Alongside this we offer monthly History walks and talks. Green Door is passionate about welcoming everyone in our communities. Our services are loved by many and the experience we offer is unique to individuals. We aim to offer the highest standard of service possible.

Our Story

Originally, Green Door was established by the local authority and offered only a limited accessible and adapted cycle hire service. In 2016 a Charitable Incorporated Organisation was founded and Green Door was led solely by it's volunteers.

Following a successful bid to The National Lottery Community Fund a program of growth was implemented. Funding also allowed staff to be employed for the first time to take care of the business side of the organisation. Thus freeing up volunteers to deliver activities. Green Door now enables thousands to engage in meaningful activities every year, thus helping us achieve our aims of reducing loneliness and isolation.

In 2018, while still maintaining a volunteer-led organisation, Green Door was able to employ staff for the first time. Allowing volunteers to deliver the activities without the responsibilities of managing the organisation. Canoeing and Kayaking and Archery were added as adaptable and inclusive activities, thus beginning a new and exciting chapter in our history.

Despite the difficulties associated with the Covid-19 lockdowns, Green Door has strengthened it's offer and built many successful and lasting partnerships.  We pride ourselves on our ability to deliver for everyone.

Volunteers are the lifeblood of our organisation. Without their tireless, selfless, dedication and passion, we would simply not be able to support the thousands of individuals on our activities each year. Green Door is incredibly proud of them and we thank them.

Over the years we have looked to reach out to many organisations and make them aware of our work. Partnerships and sharing knowledge is vital for our awareness and visibility. You can read more about this in our Partnerships section.

And finally, our funders. Having had a longstanding and successful relationship with The National Lottery Community Fund, their grants have helped to support the growth and development of Green Door. It is through this that local organisations, like ourselves, are able to deliver life-changing opportunities, activities and services for their communities.
